Men and women the world over have long sought a solution to the
problem of unwanted hair. Thanks to modern technology and past research, we have available to us a safe, relatively painless,
cost effective and permanent solution to this problem. That solution is called electrolysis.
Following are answers
to some of the most frequently asked questions concerning electrolysis.
Q. How old is the process of electrolysis? A. True electrolysis dates back to 1875.
Q. How does electrolysis remove hair? A. A very fine filament is
inserted alongside the hair in the hair follicle. A small amount of electrical current is then applied through this filament
which destroys the hair root.
Q. What parts of the body can benefit from electrolysis? A. Every part of the
body except the inside of the nose and ear canals.
Q. Are needles used in electrolysis? A. A very fine filament
is used to deliver the current to the hair papilla.
Q. Is electrolysis painful? A. You might feel a slight
tingling or slight sting when the current is applied. Insertion is usually not felt.
Q. Is electrolysis really
permanent? A. Yes. Electrolysis is the only method of hair removal recognized as permanent by the American Medical Association.
Q. What causes the growth of unwanted hair? A. Heredity, glandular disturbances, some types of illness, operations
or medications can be factors.
Q. Can't I just use depilatories to get rid of unwanted hair? A. Yes, but qwaxing,
tweesing, shaving and depilatories are temporary, time consuming and may damage skin. When an area is cleared with electrolysis,
you are free of the hassle of hair removal.
Q. What can I do about hair growth between treatments? A. Cut
the hairs close to the skin in treatment areas. Do not tweeze, bleach or use depilatories.
Q. Can I have all my
hairs removed at once? A. No. Some hairs will be in a state of dormancy or not present at the time of treatment because
they have shed. Remember, hair has a growth cycle of 2 to 12 weeks, and some follicles will need to be treated more than once
for that reason.
Q. How about healing? A. Healing after treatment is generally rapid with no signs of treatment
remaining on the skin. You may have temporary rednesss or swelling, but these will quickly disappear with your own aftercare,
as directed by your electrologist.
Q. What is the right age for electrolysis? A. Any age is right; however,
treatment is not recommended for preteens or women past 80.
Q. Is electrolysis expensive? A. The cost is moderate,
as compared with many other beauty treatments and will save you time and money in the future.
